Shadow (a wolf) is the alpha male of the pack that lives outside of Dakota's Ridge. Having lost his mate to ranchers, he assumed the same had happened to his son, Rocky. He won't let his mind think of the fact his son may be still alive, even though Sandy swears he is. Shadow also firmly stands in the belief that all humans are wolf-killers, and instructs his pack to be the same.
He is very wise, but very thick-headed at the same time. A strict father and leader, he is caring yet extremely commanding.
Taylor helps run Dakota's Ridge with her husband, Jeff. She was the one who found Dakota, then an orphaned and helpless cub, hiding in the bushes near his mother's body while on a hike with Jeff.
Tucker (a housecat) is in constant fear. He is always pestered by Dakota and Robert for a never-ending supply of cat nip. He really doesn't care for the stuff, but he tries to keep it away from his bigger cousins as best he can. He is also picked on by Dakota, who likes to make accidents look as if it was Tucker's fault. He is, however, very clever.
